PICTURES: Ardersier Folk Festival marks fourth edition celebrating music and community
Folk music lovers were delighted as Ardersier hosted its increasingly popular Folk Festival for the fourth year.
Organised by the local folk club, this year’s festival saw live performances, dancing nights and workshops as well as several special guests in its programme.
Ardersier Folk Club’s George Livingstone said the event “hit the high notes once again”.
He said: “It was a superb weekend of music enjoyed by all who attended.
“From the audience we had comments saying it was ‘excellent, and just the way that a proper folk festival should be,’ and ‘brilliant’.
“The weekend kicked off with a Ceilidh Dance which was very well attended by many local families and visitors who danced the night away to the wonderful sounds of the Andy Ross Scottish Dance Band.”
This was followed by a series of singing workshops run by the well loved Scottish traditional singer Sylvia McGowan, as well as a songwriting workshop run by Anthoney Toner from Belfast.
A family concert on Saturday afternoon followed, with many groups of children from local schools performing, supported by Ardersier Forte and Corralach.
Orcadian duo Saltfishforty and last year’s winner of the Paul Tonberg Shield song writing shield, Willie MacDonald were also performing.
The winner of this year’s Paul Tonberg Shield - a competition run annually as part of the festival - was Forres songwriter Shirley Barr with her song Little Thief.
