A major incident is ongoing after a car crashed into an Inverness building

A major incident is ongoing in Grant Street in Inverness after a Mercedes car crashed into a building.

Emergency services are in attendance at the former William Hill shop after they were alerted shortly before 9.15pm.

It is understood that one casualty was taken to hospital, the extent of any injuries the person sustained are unknown.

Emergency services said there was a casualty, and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had used hydraulic cutting equipment at the scene.

It is understood that as well as at least one casualty, the building the vehicle crashed into was severely damaged. Causing structural concerns about its safety.

One eyewitness told The Inverness Courier that it was "like a scene from a film, with rubble lying all over the road."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are in attendance at an incident on Grant Street in Inverness.

"We were called at 9.12pm to a road traffic collision of one vehicle."

Police, the fire service and the Scottish Ambulance Service are all in attendance.

The spokeswoman continued: "We used hydraulic cutting equipment at the scene."

A police spokeswoman added: "Grant Street is currently closed at it's junctions with Nelson Street, Telford Road, Pumpgate Street, Wyvis Place and North Kessock Street.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes where possible."
