PICTURED: Planned new £5 million Home Bargains store on Barn Church Road in Smithton
The first images have been released of the new Home Bargains store planned for Smithton, which if it gets planning permission on Tuesday is expected to create 40 new jobs.
The £5 million development includes a 35,000 sqft Home Bargains store with 122 parking spaces – 12 will have EV charging bays, seven will be accessible spaces, and there will be four parent and child spaces.
Current projections also indicate the development would create over 40 new local jobs, with an additional 55 jobs expected during construction and within the supply chain.
The store would sit between Barn Church Road and Drummossie Road.
The proposed development includes substantial green allotment space, which, if approved, will be transferred to the Highland Council to ensure it is available for community use.
A spokesperson from T.J. Morris – the owners of Home Bargains – said: “Following constructive dialogue with the Highland Council Planning Department, we welcome officers’ recommendation to approve our application for a new Home Bargains store in Inverness.
“We were encouraged by the positive feedback during the pre-application consultation and are delighted that it has resulted in overwhelming support for the application, with 128 formal representations – over 80 per cent of all comments – confirming their support for the project.
“The development promises to bring substantial investment of £5 million to the area, alongside the creation of over 40 new jobs and we are confident that our proposal offers a unique opportunity to create investment, jobs, and enhance the community with the addition of dedicated garden allotment spaces.”
