THIS week’s Picture Detective marks a slight departure from the usual images from Am Baile.

We were contacted by former Inverness man Derek Mathieson, with a photograph of himself and a number of other children in the 1950s.

He knows their identities but wondered if any of our readers can spot themselves in it as well.

Mr Mathieson, who was born in Inverness but now lives in Darlington, said the image was taken at the top of the city’s Bruce Gardens/St Valery Avenue junction somewhere around 1955-56.

“I have been able to identify everybody in the photo including, of course, myself. I wonder if your readers can identify themselves in the picture. The houses at the top of Bruce Gardens became occupied in 1953 when we all moved in and St Valery Avenue was still in the process of being built.

“I hope it might prove to be of some interest to your readers.”

Pictured are (from left), rear – Rhona Kennedy, Derek Mathieson, Cathy Gaughan (who was visiting from Edinburgh and staying with Mrs Mathieson), Heather Murray, Joyce Cummings, Gregor Kennedy; front – Ian Ross, Donnie Murray, Shirley Ross, June Ross, Irene Ross, Linda Milligan and Hugh Ross. The picture was taken by Mrs Mathieson’s cousin Margaret Davidson.

Our mystery selection of pictures from Am Baile will return in the next edition of Picture Detective.

If you have any mystery photos, or happen to have information about ones that we have previously published, you can email us at newsdesk@hnmedia.co.uk.
