An Ardersier man captured an amazing night sky on the Isle of Skye.

A construction worker from Ardersier has captured a once in a lifetime picture of the aurora with a shooting star over Broadford Bay on the Isle of Skye.

Christopher Andrew, who says he has always been interested in photography, said he was inspired by scientist Brian Cox and his love of the night sky – thinking he thought he would give it a go.

And the result – well it speaks for itself.

Mr Andrew said: "I am a full-time construction worker and part-time photographer from Ardersier.

"I've always been interested in photography and the night sky. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to the two subjects to be honest. I am a big Brian Cox fan.

"This photo was taken from Broadford Bay on the Isle of Skye looking towards the islands of Pabay and Raasay.

He explained: "It was one of my last shots as my feet were frozen with standing in water with just trainers on, as the tide was coming in.

"I could see the aurora getting stronger and as I hit the shutter button, the meteor flew over head and straight into shot.

"Was well worth standing in the water for – but afterwards it took about an hour to thaw out."
