A local pensioner has won a brand new Volkswagen Polo worth more than £15,000 at Simpsons Garden Centre in Inverness.

Henry Staines entered the giveaway, which has been running since June, several times.

The 87-year-old said: “I never win anything, so this was a big surprise to me. I must have entered a dozen times.

“I visit Simpsons restaurant on a regular basis for a cup of tea, a cake and a read of the local papers which the restaurant always has available.”

The car, which enjoyed a summer tour of the Highlands covered garden themed graphics, was certainly hard to miss and brought a smile to the many people who spotted it out on the road and outside the garden centre.

Simpsons marketing representative Siobhan MacBean said: “As the destination garden centre for the Highlands, we were overwhelmed by the response we had for the car giveaway. We had entries from across the Highlands and Islands and nationwide!

“We are absolutely delighted for our winner Mr Staines, it’s lovely to hear his story of why he visits and how much he enjoys our restaurant. Simpsons has something for everyone. Whether it’s a trip to our restaurant or a visit to our excellent outdoor plant area.”

The garden centre was formed in 2001 and now employs more than 100 people.
