A pensioner who lost his temper after being accused of inappropriately touching a supermarket member of staff has been told to behave himself for the next six months.

Angus MacLean, of Drumsmittal Road, North Kessock, had his not guilty plea to the allegation accepted by fiscal depute Fiona Murray, but he admitted abusive behaviour towards Tesco Inshes staff.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that the 69-year-old was tracked down in the check-outs area in a Tesco branch in Inverness on November 19, 2019 by the store manager and detective and asked to leave the store.

Mrs Murray said MacLean started shouting abuse and swearing at the two members of staff as he was escorted outside.

He then made continued attempts to re-enter the premises.

Defence solicitor John MacColl said: “He was outraged at the allegation.”

Deferring sentence for good behaviour until December 9, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald said: “You may have been right to be angry but not to shout and swear at people in this way.

“If there is no repeat of this type of behaviour then I will treat you leniently.”
