MOTORISTS are now banned from parking on the roundabout between Inverness railway station and Eastgate Shopping Centre – for safety reasons.

Highland Council has issued a temporary traffic order including the change, which comes at the request of Network Rail and the shopping centre.

The council has advised motorists to adhere to parking signs in the area.

The traffic order also includes limiting motorists from waiting in vehicles for longer than 20 minutes and anyone parked in a designated bay cannot return within one hour.

It also bans any parking or loading on the road from Station Lane to its junction with Millburn Road.

This will also control permit holder parking.

The temporary order runs until December 1 next year.

A council spokeswoman said: "The purpose of this order is to ensure the safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians."
