Parents of Inverness pupils warned of positive Covid lateral flow test

Parents of pupils at Inverness High School have been advised that a pupil has had a positive lateral flow test.

A letter has been sent to parents and guardians of schoolchildren advising them of a positive result, and confirming that close contacts have been asked to self isolate.

The pupil was last in school on Friday May 14.

In a letter from Dr Jenny Wares, a consultant in public health medicine (health protection), she said: "We have identified a positive lateral flow device (LFD) test result for a pupil at the school.

"In line with the national guidance, we have commenced contact tracing whilst a further test result from PCR testing is awaited.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are working in close partnership with the head teacher to manage this situation. All necessary action has been taken at the school. "

She continued: "The affected individual was last in school on Friday May 14 2021. Pupils who have been identified as close contacts have been identified separately and have been advised to self-isolate."

As long as pupils are well, and if family members have no symptoms, she added: "Then everyone in the house can all go about their normal business."

However, if someone in the household does have symptoms then the family should self isolate and book a Covid test as soon as possible.

Dr Wares said: "The most common symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19) are recent onset of a new continuous cough and/or a high temperature, and/or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia."
