Parents help in search for new headteacher at Farr Primary School
A PARENT council in scenic Strathnairn has issued a call for headteachers interested in possibly working in the “beautiful community” of Farr.
For the last three years there has been no permanent head at Farr Primary, meaning the school has been led by four different people in that time.
This has raised concerns for the parent council because it fears the “constant turnover and change in leadership direction has been unsettling for the children”.
But now that Highland Council has formally advertised the position, the local community is delighted and has added its weight to the campaign.
A spokeswoman for the parent council talked-up some of the benefits of living and teaching in the close-knit Strathnairn area.
She said: “Nestled in the heart of this small community is its much-loved school, Farr Primary, which has a long history dating back to 1877.
“Farr Primary has a wonderful history of teaching across generations, with many current pupils’ parents – and indeed grandparents – having attended over the years.
“Welcoming many new families to the area, the school has seen a growing population locally and as a result the roll has risen to 61 school pupils and counting, with 20 children in the nursery.
“We also have a very busy local parent and toddler group supporting our little Farr Stars of the future.”
The children were asked what qualities they would like to see in their dream headteacher and they said it would be someone who is “nice and kind” who “doesn’t shout” and is “fun” and “likes to sing”.
Applications should be sent to Highland Council by Monday.
