Emergency services were called out to a popular Highland beauty spot after two visitors were swept downstream at a waterfall.

The incident happened at Plodda Falls outside Tomich near Glen Affric on Saturday afternoon.

A 21-year-old woman got into difficulties after entering the water below the falls. A 50-year-man went in to help her but the pair were washed downstream.

A third member of the group alerted the emergency services.

Fire appliances from Drumnadrochit and Cannich, plus fire service boat teams from Inverness and Fort William, attended the incident.

Police officers also called in volunteers from Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team to help in locating the pair.

HM Coastguard and Scottish Ambulance Service also attended the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Following an extensive search by emergency services partners, both were traced safe.

"They were checked over by paramedics and the woman was taken to Raigmore Hospital as a precaution."

The 150ft Plodda Falls are on a route popular with walkers south-west of Tomich. They are on a tributary to a river which joins with the River Affric to form the River Glass.
