Wherefore art thou, Romeo? Well, it was Simpsons Garden Centre and a hearty breakfast for these retired gentlemen this morning.

Calling themselves the Romeo Club – Retired Old Men Eating Out! – the members from in and around Inverness like to gather every Monday morning from 9.30 am to 11 am to chew the fat.

They tucked in to a full Scottish breakfast at the Culloden Road outlet's restaurant, with Simpsons posting on their social media pages: "We were delighted to welcome the Romeo (Retired Old Men Eating Out) group to our restaurant this morning.

"What a fabulous bunch and a great way to start the week. We hope all enjoyed your breakfasts gents!"

The Romeo movement is thought to have begun in the USA several decades ago, drawing together retired men who not so much miss work, but miss the male-to-male working relationships they enjoyed in younger years.

The get-togethers are completely informal, without official rules or any affiliation to a central organisation – and based on the three F principles of food, friendship and fun.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the group, which is run through Smithton Church, can do so through the following link.
