Busy Bees Nursery in Inverness is living up to its name this Easter by staying home to support key workers.

The centre – which serves staff at Raigmore Hospital and the Mackenzie Centre, which is the city's coronavirus assessment unit – is working with 19 infants and children aged up to the age of seven over the Easter holiday weekend.

Busy Bees normally works with children up to the age of five, but changed its service to meet the needs of essential workers during the coronavirus lockdown.

Staff and children have been making biscuits for key worker parents to hand out to their staff team at their workplace to help brighten their day.

A spokesman for the nursery said: "It's a small gesture of thanks from our team to them."

Busy Bees temperature test all children, staff and parents on arrival to help restrict the spread of coronavirus within our centre so that we can continue to remain open, as well as following the government guidance.

Megan Lobar, acting centre director at Busy Bees Inverness, said: “Our team at Busy Bees Inverness are proud to remain open for the key worker families to allow them to keep our nation going. There is no denying that the last few weeks have been a challenge for our educators, parents and the children.

"There have been many changes to the normal day-to-day routines we have had to adapt to but together, with our parents working alongside us we have created a new 'normal', which allows us to protect our staff, parents and children we care for. By introducing new additional measures, it has allowed our educators to continue to be there for the children offering them calm amid the chaos, creating a sense of normality for them.

“On behalf of our team at Busy Bees Inverness we would like to say a huge thank you to all the key workers who are keeping our nation running.

"On a personal note I would like to also say thank you to my team who are proud to be playing their part, enabling our key workers families to continue to go to work. I am immensely proud of our team as they have faced new challenges on a daily basis that we have never experienced before.

"They have stepped up and embraced each new change during this uncertain time, all while continuing to provide children with the best start in life. And while it might not be the Easter weekend we all had planned, we are going to make sure that it is an extra special one for both staff and children at our centre.”
