Covid-19 death toll update.

A total of 97 people have now died in the NHS Highland area from either confirmed or suspected Covid-19 – up from 88 a week ago.

Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland issues numbers of cases where Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate.

Within the NHS Highland area, since the outbreak began, 31 of the total number of deaths have occurred in care homes with 15 at home and 53 in hospital.

Within the smaller Highland Council area the death toll now stands at 39.

Nine of those deaths have occurred in care homes with five at home and 25 in hospital.

The spike in care home deaths – up six from last week – is likely to be attributable to the outbreak of infection at the Home Farm care home on Skye.

A total of seven residents have now died there.

Scotland as a whole has seen a rise in the total number of Covid-19 deaths, up to 3213 from 2795 registered seven days ago though the rate of increase has fallen for a second week in a row.

In a more detailed breakdown of the national numbers, the majority of deaths were in hospitals (1537) while 1438 people died in care homes and 238 people died at home or in another setting.
