North Kessock Hogmanay attack saw man (23) ‘repeatedly punching’ his father
A SON attacked his father after coming to stay with family in North Kessock at Hogmanay 2023 because he got told off for letting the family pet dog escape.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 23-year-old Alistair MacEachen of Hatton Road, Rattray in Perthshire punched his father repeatedly in the face when he came back into his house in Roundhouse Court, North Kessock following a shopping trip.
He admitted assault to injury and threatening or abusive behaviour and sentence had previously been deferred for a background report.
Fiscal depute Adele Gray said: "Neighbours heard him shouting but could not hear what he was saying. There was an argument before he left in his car only to return and start another physical altercation.
"He was asked to leave the property and kicked a hole in a wall. Then police were called," Ms Gray added.
"As he was being put in a police van, he continued to shout and swear at his father who suffered bruising and swelling," Ms Gray said.
Defending, Sam Morrison said her client was consuming drugs at the time and this may have contributed to his behaviour.
Sheriff Gordon Lamont told MacEachen: "You should be deeply ashamed of yourself. You were repeatedly punching your father on the head to his injury. But I am persuaded there is an alternative to a prison sentence and you will take part in a social work programme.
"But what the court wants is a glowing report. I am giving you a chance today."
He has been instructed to carry out an offender rehabilitation programme and is due to appear again on May 1.
