NO fresh Covid infections were reported across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases since the start of the pandemic remained unchanged on 5172 when Public Health Scotland released its latest update on Friday.

There were 215 positive tests for the virus in the past 24 hours - or 1.3 per cent of all those people tested during that period.

Sixty-four people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, which was up one from Thursday’s update.

Of those, three were in intensive care – down one.

Sadly, two further deaths were recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Elsewhere, in the north, there were again no new cases in NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney. NHS Eileanan Siar, meanwhile, recorded its second new infection in as many days – with its cumulative total rising by one to 296.

In the NHS Grampian area there were 15 new cases, for a running tally of 15,270.

And there were seven fresh infections in the NHS Tayside region, for a total of 14,797.

There have now been 228,908 positive tests in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

Almost 2.99 million people have now received their first Covid jag in Scotland, with nearly 1.58 million having had their second.
