A circus-themed fashion show has raised more than £3500 to help develop a new children’s unit at Raigmore Hospital.

A Big Top atmosphere was created in the Eastgate Shopping Centre for the Cirque Du Fashion Show involving 40 models.

Hosted by drag queen Scarlet Diamonte, it showcased the winter trends from fashion stores in the centre including Debenhams, Next, Topshop and New Look.

Members of TFX Performing Arts also provided entertainment while the circus master was Inverness businessman David Sutherland.

The money raised from the sale of tickets plus a raffle and game will go to the £2 million Highland Children’s Unit Appeal, launched by the ARCHIE Foundation in conjunction with The Inverness Courier.

Laura Mackintosh, Highlands and Western Isles head of fundraising for the ARCHIE Foundation, was delighted by the amount raised.

"It was an excellent night and really well supported by the local community," she said. "We are so grateful to the Eastgate Shopping Centre for staging this and for its continued support for the appeal."

With just another £200,000 to go before the appeal reaches its target, work has already started on the new department which is due to open in March. It involves the redevelopment and extension of the former ward 11 previously used for respiratory patients.
