TWO new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours – ending the region's run of three days without any positive tests.

The health board area has now recorded a cumulative total of 385 positive tests since the start of the pandemic.

The slight rise came amid a jump in cases across Scotland, with 64 new positive tests recorded across the country in the past 24 hours.

Many of these were linked to the recent hotspot in Aberdeen, which today prompted the reintroduction of lockdown measures in the Granite City.

However, despite the national jump in cases, there was better news elsewhere in the figures, with Scotland once again recording no new fatalities among people with the virus.

The number of people in intensive care also fell from four to three, and the overall number of hospitalised cases also dropped from 270 to 267.

In the north of Scotland, outwith the Highlands, there were 36 fresh cases of Covid-19 reported in NHS Grampian – most linked to the ongoing Aberdeen hotspot, which has now resulted in 54 separate cases of the coronavirus in recent days.

NHS Tayside saw its cumulative number of cases increase by two to 1797, but the Northern Isles and Outer Hebrides continued their lengthy run of days without any new positive tests.
