THE Highlands have reported no freshly-confirmed coronavirus cases for the second day in a row, Scottish Government figures have shown.

The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the NHS Highland area since the pandemic began is still 337.

However, there was a slight rise in the number of Highlanders receiving hospital treatment for the virus, which rose from nine to 11 since yesterday.

Across Scotland there were 39 fresh positive tests for Covid-19 yesterday – bringing the overall total to 15,327.

Hospitalised cases continued to drop slightly, falling from 797 on Thursday to 769 last night.

But sadly another 15 people who tested positive for the virus have subsequently died – bringing the figure to 2331.

Elsewhere in the north, Orkney's long spell without fresh cases has ended, after one person gave a positive test yesterday - taking its overall number of confirmed cases to eight.

But Shetland and Eileanan Siar once again went without any new diagnoses, and kept their overall totals at 54 and six respectively.

NHS Grampian, meanwhile, recorded 10 new confirmed cases to take its total to 1269. It's number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients remained flat at 65 – although the number in intensive care rose to five.

NHS Tayside reported three new positive tests. It has now had 1668 confirmed cases since the pandemic began. However, those receiving hospital treatment fell from 13 to 10.
