A FURTHER case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in the NHS Highland area.

The fresh positive test – which brings the region-wide tally to 339 – was one of 33 newly-confirmed diagnoses across Scotland since yesterday. The total number of positive tests in Scotland now stands at 15,504.

Although the number of cases in the Highlands rose by one overnight, the number of people who tested positive who were being treated in the area's hospitals fell by the same amount, dropping to nine.

Sadly, there have been 11 further deaths among people who had tested positive in Scotland. The tally is now 2386.

News of the fresh fatalities came just hours after it was revealed that there were four further confirmed Covid-19 deaths in the Highlands in the past week. Some 111 Highlanders have died from the virus since the pandemic began.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there have been no further fresh positive tests for the virus in the Northern Isles or Outer Hebrides.

NHS Grampian's official number of cases rose by one to 1282, with 64 of those receiving treatment in hospital at midnight.

And NHS Tayside reported no fresh positive tests for the third day running. Its tally remained at 1671, and hospitalised cases fell by one, to nine.
