SEVENTY-two hours have now passed since the NHS Highland area recorded its most recent positive test for Covid-19.

The region's overall total of confirmed cases remained flat at 378 when the daily update was published at 2pm. News of the absence of fresh positive tests came shortly after the National Records of Scotland revealed that there were no deaths from the virus in the health board's area in the past week.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were also no new positive tests in NHS Grampian, Orkney, Shetland or the Outer Hebrides in the past 24 hours.

The NHS Tayside area, which extends as far north as the Drumochter Pass, recorded just one new positive test – to take its overall total to 1782.

Nationally, there were only 10 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, and there were no new fatalities among those who had tested positive. There have been 18,484 positive tests for the coronavirus in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

The number of people in Scottish hospitals with confirmed Covid-19 fell from 303 on Tuesday to 295 today. Of those, only three were in intensive care last night.
