NHS Highland enters fifth day without reporting any fresh positive tests for the Covid-19 coronavirus; 18 fresh diagnoses were reported across the whole of Scotland in the past 24 hours
FIVE days have now passed since NHS Highland recorded its most recent positive test for Covid-19.
The health board area's total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began remained static at 376 when the Scottish Government posted its daily update at 2pm.
The lack of new cases in the region came amid a backdrop of 18 positive tests across Scotland as a whole in the past 24 hours. The increase has taken the national total for positive tests to 18,333.
Despite the slight increase in cases, Scotland reported no new fatalities among people who tested positive for the virus. The death toll remained at 2490 this afternoon.
In the north of Scotland, only the NHS Grampian region reported any new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. It saw its running total for positive tests increase by two to 1429.
Despite this rise, the number of people being treated in its hospitals for Covid-19 last night fell by two to 31. None of the other northern health boards have more than four hospital cases apiece – the cut off point below which the individual stats are not released by the government.
Nationally, there was once again a slight fall in the number of hospitalised cases, which stood at 337 last night – down five from 24 hours earlier. Of those, only four were in intensive care – up one from the previous day.
