NINE new cases of the coronavirus have been detected across NHS Highland.

The health board area’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4673 to 4682 since yesterday’s update.

Nineteen people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in NHS Highland hospitals last night – a figure unchanged from yesterday’s update.

Of those, fewer than five were in intensive care. Once the figure falls below five it is redacted in order to protect patients’ identities.

There were 543 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 2.6 per cent of all tests during that period.

Some 750 people were being treated for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – a fall of 34 from yesterday. The number of those in intensive care fell by two, to 69.

And sadly a further 35 deaths have been recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, there were no newly-confirmed cases of the virus in the Northern Isles or Outer Hebrides.

NHS Grampian recorded 29 new cases, to take its cumulative tally to 13,517.

And NHS Tayside also reported 29 positive tests. It has now had 13,246 known infections since the pandemic began.

There have been 203,555 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Scotland since the outbreak started last spring.

More than 27,500 further people had their first vaccination dose in the past 24 hours. More than 8000 others had their second jag.
