NHS Highland records five new positive tests for the Covid-19 coronavirus

FIVE further Covid-19 infections have been detected across NHS Highland in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases rose from 5112 to 5117 when the latest figures were released on Monday.

Across Scotland there were 142 new positive tests in the past 24 hours – or 1.7 per cent of all those tests carried out during that period. Ninety-three people were receiving treatment for the virus in hospital – of which a dozen were in intensive care.

No further deaths were reported among people who tested positive in the past 28 days.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar in the past day.

Ten new positive tests were recorded across NHS Grampian, for a running tally of 14,896.

And NHS Tayside detected 11 new cases, to take its cumulative total to 14,650.

There have now been 225,346 positive tests for the virus in Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

Some 2.77 million Scots have now had their first Covid vaccination jag, while almost 1.07 million have had their second.
