Renal patients to benefit from new posts at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness

Staff members at the NHS Highland renal unit have been promoted to assistant practitioners.
Maria Reye and Nicola Fraser have been promoted to renal assistant practitioners having both worked in the renal unit as haemodialysis support workers over the past few years.
The new role will require them to undertake additional training, including learning how to cannulate a haemodialysis patient's fistula or graft, so that they can independently undertake all aspects of a standard haemodialysis treatment.
This role has already been successfully introduced to other renal units elsewhere in the UK and will help to reduce potential delays in getting people onto dialysis at Raigmore.
The role will also make better use of the existing skills that both women already have.
Magda Mikosz, will be one of the four registered nurses mentoring the women while they undertake the training.
