TWO more planning applications for food outlets for Inverness have been lodged with Highland Council for consideration.

Both involve change of classification from Class 1 shops to Class 3 which is selling hot food.

One application is for the bookies premises at 12 Hilton Village, Old Town Road, where Dougan UK per Mr S Dougan is seeking permission for a Chinese takeaway by either collection or delivery.

A design statement for the applicant says: “The preparation and cooking area will have an extract ventilation system to comply with the current environment health requirements.

“The property currently has a service entrance for daily deliveries of goods including staff entry and exit. In addition there is a separate public entrances from the Village foyer and the external public, giving access to a waiting area and counter area with disabled lowered access.”

The premises will be open for staff from noon for preparation with public access between 4.30pm and 11pm seven days a week with last deliveries at 10.45pm.

The other application is for Big Szef, a Turkish restaurant seating 19 people and takeaway at 5 Strothers Lane.

The premises, between Artysans Café and Poppyscotland’s former site, is vacant.

A proposal statement on behalf of applicant Usman Mustafa says: “Surrounding the application site there are other cafés, restaurants, takeaways, and shops. The site is located in the heart of the town, and through the new use, it is estimated that there will be an increase in pedestrian foot traffic along both Academy Street and Strothers Lane, spread through the day, evenings and weekends.

“This will benefit other local businesses and the overall character of the area.”

The proposed opening hours for the restaurant are 11am-11pm Monday-Sunday, with takeaways from 11am-3am Monday-Sunday.

It is anticipated there will be up to six part-time or full-time jobs for the restaurant and takeaway.

“It is very much hoped that we will get approval. The intention is to provide good quality food and drink which will be an asset to the town generally,” said the applicant.
