A new Inverness business will provide advice to parents wanting to carry their baby by sling.

The “sling library” is run by babywearing consultant Laurna Hislop, whose Coorie In With Love studio has now opened in Baron Taylor’s Street.

Babywearing is the practice of wearing or carrying a baby in a sling or other form of carrier. Ms Hislop will offer advice on the more than 60 different models of slings that people can buy or hire.

Her new premises will also provide a space for meet-ups, workshops and other events for parents.

An opening event last weekend went well.

“It was great,” Ms Hislop said. “It was so busy with people coming and going and some people stayed the whole time.”

Having run a range of training events and workshops for parents interested in sling use over the past four years, she added: “I am really excited to finally have my own space to be able to welcome everyone who wants to learn more about sling-carrying .

“I have been wanting to open it for a while but as most of my sessions are based on donations, it was difficult to find a central place that I could afford.”

Ms Hislop first became interested in babywearing when her own daughter suffered from reflux and slings provided a means to keep her upright.

She also suffered from post-natal depression and said the sense of connection created between her and her daughter through the sling was very helpful for them both.

Her new studio is fully accessible for buggy and wheelchair users and opens four days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

It also sells handmade clothes for babies and wooden toys.
