New head teacher for Inverness primary school

Ruth Mackay has been appointed as the new head teacher of Holm Primary School in Inverness.

She takes over from Margaret Matheson, who retires at the end of this term.

Councillor John Finlayson, chairman of Highland Council’s learning committee, said: “Congratulations to Ruth Mackay on her new appointment and on behalf of Highland Council I would like to thank Margaret Matheson for her absolute dedication, commitment and care shown over the years to pupils, families and staff.

“Margaret’s unwavering grace, counsel and considered leadership has been a great source of support to less-experienced colleagues over the years and she will be missed by pupil, parents, staff and colleagues alike."

Ms Matheson said: “It has been both a pleasure and privilege to have worked with pupils, families and staff for the last seven years.

"As I reflect over this time, I am aware we have developed new approaches to learning and teaching to best meet the needs of our pupils in a changing world. I would like to thank staff and parents for their unstinting support and encouragement over the years. It is through effective partnership working that we have created a great school community who work well together for the good of our children. I know I leave the school in good hands and wish my successor all the best for the future.”

Ms Mackay is currently acting head teacher of the associated school grouping of Teanassie, Tomnacross and Dochgarroch primaries.

“I am very much looking forward to working with all pupils, staff, parents and the wider community of Holm Primary,” she said.
