FURTHER flooding has caused disruption on the Inverness-Aberdeen rail line for the second time today.

ScotRail is warning of cancellations and revisions to services after flooding hit the line between Nairn and Elgin.

The disruption, which is expected to last until 5pm, comes just hours after flooding between Dyce and Aberdeen caused earlier delays and cancellations on the same route. That earlier flooding later cleared.

However, the reports of flooding east of Nairn have prompted the closure of the track once again.

A spokesman for ScotRail said: "Because of severe weather between Nairn and Elgin all lines are disrupted. Disruption is expected to last until around 5pm today.

"Train services between Aberdeen and Inverness will be cancelled or revised.

"For your safety the line has been closed until a full inspection can be carried out."

The flooding is not the only rail disruption to have hit the Highlands on Thursday.

The Highland mainline was blocked for a time near Carrbridge following a freight train break down . This sparked the cancellation of trains between Aviemore and Inverness.

The train has since been removed, but ScotRail was still warning of knock-on disruption at the time of writing.
