The Loch Ness 360 Challenge will now take place on May 28-30 next year.

Organisers of a new round Loch Ness event have set a new date for the challenge after it was forced to cancel in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Loch Ness 360 Challenge consists of five separate events – an ultramarathon, mountain bike circuit, and three marathons over three days, completing a 360-degree loop of the loch.

The events will now take place over the weekend of May 28-30, 2021, with the same format as was planned for this year.

Alan Rawlinson, business development manager at Visit Inverness Loch Ness which is organising the challenge, said: "We've had a really positive response from participants since announcing the new date and we'll have a clearer picture of numbers by April 10, when the deadline for refunds is.

"We're hoping a big percentage will transfer to the new date."

Runners will have the choice of an ultramarathon or three marathons in three days – or they can pick just one or two of the marathons.

He added that the tourism organisation was helping its members plan for the recovery period after current restrictions around Covid-19 are lifted.

Ideas being shared include creating good content for digital platforms and looking to the potential for an influx of visitors later in the year.

"We're looking to promote the autumn as a great time to visit," Mr Rawlinson added. "The colours here are lovely at that time of year and that's what we are working towards."
