Neighbours are offering help to a family who have been rehomed following a house fire in Inverness.

No-one was seriously injured in the blaze in Carnarc Crescent on Tuesday but it destroyed their garden and damaged their house and police want to speak to witnesses.

The family – understood to be a mum and dad plus four children – have been rehomed by Highland Council.

Merrin Avis, the chairwoman of South Kessock Residents Association (SKRA), said that the community wanted to offer any help the family needed, but after making a number of calls on social media they had not come forward.

She said: "The family seem to have kept themselves to themselves.

"We (SKRA) are keen to help in any way we can but can't do anything until we have spoken to them to confirm this is what they want, and what they need.

"I just hope that the message reaches the family as they may not have access to social media just now.

"They can get in touch by email at Southkessock.RA@gmail.com or find me or SKRA on Facebook."

Inverness central councillor Bet McAllister said: "I understand the fire meant that a family of four girls and their parents had nowhere to stay.

"But I am advised that the family have been housed by Highland Council. I think they lost everything in the fire, and they were unable to go back to the house to collect anything, so they really have nothing at all.

"I feel most worried for the children.

"I know that the South Kessock Residents Association are ready and willing to help them, so I hope that anything that can be raised will get to them."

In the meantime, police have put up a cordon around the house, and they have been at the scene round the clock.

A police spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether it [the fire] is deliberate or not.

"Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have seen, heard or recorded anything in relation to this incident to contact them by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quote police reference NN3086/20."
