Plane trailing ‘Resign Sturgeon’ banner flies over Holyrood in stunt

Campaigners against Scottish independence have flown a plane over Edinburgh and Glasgow trailing a banner calling on Nicola Surgeon to resign.
The Majority, Scotland Matters and UK Union Voice crowdfunded more than £7,000 towards the cost of the stunt.
The plane, trailing a banner reading “#Resign Sturgeon” in red and black letters, was flown over the Scottish Parliament and Glasgow city centre.
Campaigners also placed messages demanding that the First Minister step down on billboards in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Ms Sturgeon has been accused by her predecessor, Alex Salmond, of breaking the ministerial code.
The controversy surrounds the Scottish Government’s handling of harassment complaints against the former first minister, an investigation that was ruled unlawful by the courts.
On Wednesday, Ms Sturgeon defended her actions in a marathon eight-hour evidence session to the Holyrood committee examining the botched investigation.
The Scottish Conservatives have said they will lodge a no-confidence motion in the First Minister.
Campaigner Mark Devlin, of The Majority, said: “We represent the silent majority of people in Scotland, who are angry and frustrated by Nicola Sturgeon’s shenanigans bringing international shame on Scotland.”
Alan Sutherland, from Scotland Matters, said: “We call on the First Minister to do the right thing for Scotland: resign and let us focus on recovery from the pandemic.”
