Man found dead in property after fire

By PA News

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (PA)

The body of a man has been found following a fire at a property in the north-west Highlands.

Emergency services responded to reports of a blaze on Poldarroch Road, Drumbeg, at around 4.03pm on Wednesday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) attended and extinguished the fire.

The body was found inside the property and his next of kin have been informed.

Police are treating the death as unexplained while inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.

SFRS area commander Michael Humphries said: “We were alerted at 4.03pm on Wednesday to reports of a dwelling fire in the village of Drumbeg.

“Operations control mobilised four fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters were met by a well-developed fire. Crews extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.

“Sadly, a man was found to have passed away at the scene. Our thoughts are very much with everyone affected at this difficult time.

“A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland is under way.”
