A talented teenager has been crowned the winner of a popular Highland charity talent show.

Sophie Boyne impressed the judges at Highlands Got Talent on Saturday with her performance of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing - as well as with her fundraising efforts over the past few months.

The 13-year-old, from Nairn, raised more than £10,000 for the charities supported by the event: Mikeysline, Cash for Kids North of Scotland and Highland Hospice.

Sophie Boyne (13) was the winner of this year's Highlands Got Talent, after she raised almost £10k for local charities.

The event, which is organised by Celebrating Amy - set up in tribute to Muir of Ord mum Amy Tuach who sadly died in 2022, aged 39 - raised a total of £40,000, with seven finalists, including Charleston Bee The Change Choir, performing on the night.

Sophie’s charity of choice, rape and sexual abuse victim support organisation RASASH, will also be given £1000 after her win.

Judge Tony Henry praised her performance, saying it was “really clear” she has a future in the music business.

Commenting on her win, Sophie said: “I had an amazing night on Saturday and I am so happy to have won the competition.

“All the contestants were amazing, and we had a great day together. I’m so glad to have won and that my chosen charity, RASASH, have received a £1000 donation from my winning prize money.

“Thank you so much to Gary Tuach [Amy’s husband] and the Celebrating Amy team for putting all their time and effort into producing such a great show and to all three supported charities, Highland Hospice, Mikeysline and Cash for Kids North Scotland, for their support throughout the last six months.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me and to all those who donated towards my fundraising total of over £10,000.

“A special mention to my parents, brother and to Alan Greer and Chris Manning for all of their musical support, I couldn’t have done it without you all!”

In a relatively short period, Sophie has released her first original song Will I Trust Again? and was spotted for her talent by local producer Mr Greer. Sophie has collected wins in music competitions, including the inaugural young musician award at the Nairn Book and Arts Festival. She is now hoping to receive a call back from Britain’s Got Talent producers, after she successfully passed the first stage of auditions for the popular TV talent contest earlier this month.
