A SMALL unkempt corner of Queenspark has been transformed into a flower bed by volunteers of the Nairn Residents Group.

The pocket of land was overgrown with shrubs and weeds before the green fingers of the group got to work on it and now it provides a splash of colour for residents in John Street.

"It was a small project but it's a bit of a landmark as this is the first we have undertaken as a group and hopefully it's just the start," said Morag Anderson who had been instrumental in setting up the residents organisation to support the community.

"Queenspark is a great place to live and there's a lot of work we can do to support the residents and improve amenities. We got the flowers from the botanic gardens in Inverness and five volunteers planted them and it's looking great.

"We'll soon have a committee and office-bearers and we'll take things from there. But we are already getting a lot of support from Highland Council and the next exciting thing that will be happening is the installation of new play equipment by Nairn Play at the Riverside park.

"We are just waiting for a start date and when that is completed it will give young families somewhere to take there kids and have some fun."
