A popular Nairn bar has been named as the Campaign for Real Ale's (CAMRA) Highlands and Western Islands Pub of the Year 2020.

The Bandstand Bar and Restaurant, which stands on the seaside town's links, is described as a cosy hotel, pub and restaurant, as well as a popular and lively community hub.

It hosts regular live music events, two annual beer festivals and works closely with local suppliers to offer fantastic food.

The Bandstand is the first venture in the hospitality trade for new owners Paul and Lyndy Geddes.

Mr Geddes said: “I’m absolutely honoured that the Bandstand has won CAMRA’s Highlands and Islands Pub of the Year Award. To go from taking over the pub just 11 months ago to being able to compete against the finest pubs across the north of Scotland makes me so incredibly proud. We’ve worked so hard to make the Bandstand the go-to place for a great pint.”

He said he was very excited about competing in CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year and added: “The competition features the very best pubs around the UK and we’re looking forward to showcasing the welcoming environment where you’re greeted as a regular from the moment you walk through the door.

“I want to say a massive thank you to our loyal customers, old and new, from near and far, who have supported our efforts to develop the business and the changes we’ve made as part of our commitment to invest £150,000 in the business.

"Also, to our fantastic team who have worked tirelessly to serve up great beer and food in an environment that our customers love.”

Simon Urry, CAMRA Highlands and Western Isles chairman, presented the award to the Bandstand and said: “This is a remarkable achievement for a new business to achieve this recognition so quickly.

"The Bandstand boasts an excellent range of cask ales, and we’re pleased to see such a wide and quality offering in the Highlands.”

As well as the next stage of the Pub of the Year competition, the team at the Bandstand are now focused on preparations for a busy summer season including the 12th annual Beer and Music Festival taking place from May 22-25.

Mr Geddes said: “The award has spurred us on to make this event a real celebration of real ales, local music and great food."
