Nairn Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club is still on course to host Amateur Championship

Nairn Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club are still scheduled to host The Amateur Championship in June.
The R&A says it remains confident that both golf courses will be able to host the event due to take place in the town from June 14 to June 19.
Nairn is preparing to host the 126th staging of The Amateur Championship, as the tournament will feature a field of the top 288 world-ranked amateur players with the winner earning a place in The Open and the following year’s US Open.
Traditionally, the winner also receives an invitation to The Masters.
The statement comes after it was announced the Men’s Home International scheduled to take place at Royal Dornoch Golf Club in April has been postponed until September.
However, the Sutherland Links confirmed it turned down the chance to host the event in the Autumn due to a high number of bookings at that time as organisers look for a new venue.
The Girls’ Under-16 Amateur Championship has also been postponed and instead of taking place in April it is now scheduled from October 21-23 at Enville.
An R&A spokesman says The Amateur Championship is scheduled to go ahead at Nairn.
However, the situation could be dependent on what stage the pandemic is at in the summer.
He said: “We are still planning to play The Amateur Championship at Nairn and Nairn Dunbar.
“We are working closely with both clubs to make arrangements for the event in June. We continue to monitor the situation with the pandemic and be guided by the Scottish Government’s health measures.”
The qualifying rounds of the championship will be played at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club.
The final stages of the tournament, which is a match play event, will involved the top 64 players from the qualifying rounds and will be played at Nairn Golf Club.
The final of the competition will be played over 36 holes.
Nairn previously hosted The Amateur Championship in 1994 when Englishman Lee James triumphed over Scotland’s Gordon Sherry by 2&1 in the 36-hole final.
