Nairn Golf Club head greenkeeper David Forsyth and ‘legend’ retires after a life on the green
A Nairn Golf Club stalwart is retiring after almost fifty years on the green.
Born and raised in Nairn, David Forsyth first joined the club as an apprentice in 1976, staring straight after leaving school, where worked until 1988 - becoming deputy head greenkeper.
After working at other clubs in the UK as head greenkeeper - among which Mid Herts Golf Club and Penrith - he returned to Nairn in 2014 and has worked there since.
Staff and members at the club have thanked him for his many years of service at the end of a long shift.
On a post on Facebook they said: “A big thank you, and many congratulations, to our Greenkeeper, David Forsyth, who retires today. Quite fitting that it was a beautiful morning to catch him out on our biarritz green at the 14th, changing pin positions with his Caley Thistle hat on.
“Enjoy a long and happy retirement, David! We all look forward to seeing you on the links - playing and passing on your local knowledge to the guests and visitors. Some are lucky enough to spend their round with you on their bag, at our wonderful club. You have been a credit to us all.”
After a post was shared to announce his retirement, many rallied up to wish the Nairn ‘legend’ - who was spotted still working hard on the last day - a happy retirement.
“Nairn's greens were/are always so good-a perfect show case. Happy retirement,” said Ewen Watt.
Mike Powers commented: “Best wishes for future days and a hearty thank you for preserving and caring for a treasure many of us will only get to play once.”
