A three-day food and drink festival has been cancelled for the second year in a row.

Taste of Nairn, which was held for the first time in 2019, has once again been called off due to the pandemic.

The event, which is organised by Nairn BID, is held to celebrate the town’s food and drink offering and to support businesses by encouraging visitors.

It had been due to take place last April, was then postponed to October, and is now not expected to return until 2022.

Nairn BID manager Lucy Harding said: “Members of the board and our events team met to discuss the events schedule for 2021. Taste of Nairn was due to take place in April and is the first event of the year for Nairn BID, however we feel it is too soon in the year to be able to run it safely and make it a success due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Events take a huge amount of planning and at the moment we do not know what the situation will be come April.

“We rely on people wanting and being allowed to travel to Nairn to enjoy what we offer and the situation is just too uncertain.”

Taste of Nairn had been due to feature Great British Bake Off star Alice Fevronia.

Mrs Harding added: “The BID team is now going to concentrate on the events that we hold later in the year which are Wheels of Nairn, a modern and classic vehicle show, and the annual Christmas lights switch-on.”

Meanwhile, Nairn BID is ploughing on with a plan to spruce up areas of the town. A number of initiatives including painting street furniture, introducing new signage, maps and interpretation boards, tidying up the High Street and a continuation of the seagull control measures and the addition of hanging baskets and possibly other floral displays are planned.
