Nairn derelict building on Common Good land set to go for sale
A NAIRN derelict building is set to be sold following two public consultations.
Councillors agreed at the last Nairn Area Committee meeting to dispose of the Grant Street workshop and yard in Fishertown by selling it in its current condition.
The building, located on Common Good land, has been vacant for more than ten years and is in a dilapidated and overgrown state.
Following a first consultation, it was marketed for lease however, the council had to cease marketing after surveyors deemed the buildings as being in too dangerous conditions.
A second public consultation followed on focussing on disposal by sale of the site.
Council officers estimated that £50,000 could be made from its sale, which will go to the Common Good Fund.
At the meeting, councillors raised concerns over the costs to maintain or demolish the site in comparison to
Councillor Paul Oldham said that the decision was a "no brainer" to him in front of the costs to keep the site in front of the possible income by lease.
"From the Common Good's point of view, as a Common Good custodian, there are no other options other than sale."
Councillor Barbara Jarvie agreed to the sale after raising the possibility to use the site for storage and toilets.
Councillor Michael Green added: "This is money that we can do things with.
"We are looking after what's best for the common good and achieve best value."
