Nairn choir The Accidentals receives letter of commendation from Scottish Parliament

THE fundraising efforts of a Nairn community choir were highlighted in the Scottish Parliament earlier this month. .

After a motion submitted by Highlands and Islands MSP Edward Mountain, The Accidentals were "over the moon" as they found a letter of commendation in their mail.

It praised their latest achievement of raising £1,500 for local charities from their Christmas concert – with the funds being donated to Green Hive and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The choir's musical director, Wendy Strath, said members were all overwhelmed when they discovered the letter was waiting for them at one of their latest rehearsals at Nairn Free Church.

"I think everyone was absolutely blown away," she said. "We are absolutely over the moon, we didn't expect it at all.

"We really sing just for the fun of it and to help raise money for good local charities, not for publicity or

"We are very touched, we couldn't believe it."

She said the choir has evolved over the past years.

"This is not the same choir that we have before Covid – there are a lot of new people that have joined and everyone brings along new skills and this allowed us to do different things."

The Parliament commended the choir for their fundraising and activities and wished them "success in future events."

The motion was supported by 18 MSPs.
