The Highland Weigh commended at VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards
A popular cafe and social enterprise on Nairn High Street was recognised for its commitment to sustainability at this year’s VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards.
The event, led by SEPA and aiming to encourage and showcase best practices among businesses in Scotland, saw the Highland Weigh receiving a commendation in the Vision in Business – New Business category
Founder and managing director Amanda Macarthur said they were incredibly proud of this result.
She said: “We were thrilled to learn that The Highland Weigh had been shortlisted for a VIBES Award in July.
“As part of the judging process, we welcomed two judges from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Brian Robson and Gareth Roberts, who visited our zero-waste store and veggie café on Nairn High Street.
“We enjoyed sharing how The Highland Weigh is committed to sustainable practices. For example, we don’t use disposable cups; instead, we operate a cup-borrowing scheme in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Highland Waste Partnership. Our homemade jams eliminate the need for plastic jam tubs, we use fabric napkins, and our zero-waste store has saved over 45,000 pieces of plastic from landfill or recycling. Our team is passionate about problem-solving and finding innovative ways to reduce waste in our community.
“Additionally, we host a monthly climate café in collaboration with the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub, providing a space to discuss environmental topics that matter to our community.

“Hearing The Highland Weigh announced as a commended business in the Vision in Business – Best New Business category was a proud and exciting moment,” she said.
“We were honoured to accept this commendation on behalf of our dedicated team and wonderful community.”
