A PIPE band in Nairn was delighted to receive a £1000 donation from a local business group which will help support junior members.

Last week Gordon Chisholm, chairman of The Association of Nairn Businesses, attended the Nairn & District Pipe Band practice session at the British Legion to hand over a cheque for £800 on behalf of the group.

Mr Chisholm, who owns Tradeway in Leopold Street, rounded the donation to £1000 with a personal contribution.

The money will help the band kit out junior members of the band which will soon be ready to perform and in need of a uniform - with a cost of around £800 to fully kit out an individual member of the band.

Pipe Major Kevin Reid said he was delighted to receive the first tranche of financial support as a result of the recent fundraising campaign which saw leaflets distributed throughout the town.

He said that the current "excellent" turnout of new young members was very encouraging.
Around 10 pipers and 4 drummers were practicing on the night.

There are plans the band will perform at the British Legion on Coronation day in May, with many of the new recruits joining in.
