A project just more than a year in the making, the Nairn Beach Wheelchairs saw a soft launch on Saturday, March 1 marking a milestone for the project.

The charity, which has seen growing support from the community over the past months, welcomed the first visitors who were able to try out the wheelchairs for the first time.

The initiative aims to make Nairn beach more accessible through the use of specialist wheelchairs.

It was made possible by the hard work of local volunteers and generous donations (gathering well above £30,000 since the fundraiser started), which saw the installation of a container next to the swimming pool to contain the five wheelchairs and other equipment.

The soft launch will enable the group to start offering the service and prepare ahead for the expected increase in demand in warmer months.

Anyone interested in more information can find more details on the types of wheelchairs available and how to book on the charity’s website nairnbeachwheelchairs.co.uk.

People interested in helping out can also find out how to join the team of volunteers.
