Loch Ness views and classic bikes in Highlands for memorial road run

Motorcyclists gathered for the ninth edition of the T Arnott Moffat Memorial Highland Road Run past Loch Ness.

Named in honour of T Arnott Moffat, one of the former trials rider and ACU secretary, the event attracts riders from across the UK for a day of stunning views and great companionship.

Highland motorcycle memorial run hailed a success

This year, 46 machines took part, with riders from as far as Shrewsbury, Lancashire and Yorkshire.

The day kicked off at Dochgarroch, where participants were treated to refreshments courtesy of Loch Ness Restorations. One of the highlights was the lunch stop at Cameron’s Tea Rooms in Foyers, where the host Morag has become part of the run.

“She is always so helpful and accommodating, she looks forward to our visit every year,” said John Moffat, son of T Arnott and course plotter and run organiser. “In fact, our run stickers are proudly displayed on the entrance way!”

The 65-mile route featured breathtaking panoramic views. Participants, including Clive Smith, the 1973 British Trials expert and newcomers like Cal and Clare Luby, from Yorkshire, enjoyed the ride and the friendly atmosphere.

The machines were as varied as ever, with Steven Ross on his restored Lambretta Li125, Ian Goodall riding his Triumph Rocket 3, and Dave Varley bringing his Yamaha Serow with a custom dog basket.

With sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-20s, the weather was perfect for a ride.

John added: “My dad would have been delighted with the run and would have agreed that there should be no restriction on the machines entered, if they are two or three wheels, let them ride!”
