A popular annual event is set to return to the Black Isle Showground in Muir of Ord to support local charities helping people with MS and other conditions.

This year’s Tractor Run and family fun day – which will run on Saturday, May 18 - will raise funds for The Puffin Pool in Dingwall and the Oxygen Works in Inverness.

With around 80 vehicles expected to take part in a tractor run around the Black Isle in the morning, the event will also feature a dancing diggers’ display as well as a BBQ and bar, alongside a model display, alpacas and farm animals as well as a bouncy castle and face painting.

Organised by a group of friends, this year is Donna and Garry Bain’s turn to take the lead on the organisation and the choice of charity.

Mrs Bain said: “This time it was our turn and we decided to raise funds for The Puffin Pool in Dingwall and the Oxygen Works in Inverness.

“Many years ago I was diagnosed with MS. Although I don’t need to use them, I think they are such great placed for people who suffer from MS and other health conditions. It’s massive what they do for the community and we know people who go to both. And they are very local to us.”

The event started as part of a Strictly Inverness fundraising campaign by Martin Gill before lockdown.

Its success prompted Mr Gill and other friends (Iain MacRae, Gary Gitsham and Garry Bain) to replicate the initiative in the years after covid, raising funds for Breast Cancer UK in 2022 and last year donating more than £12,000 in aid of RNLI Kessock lifeboat – in memory of a relative lost at sea.

The tractors will leave the show field at 10am and will go to various locations among which Conon Bridge, Dingwall, Culbokie, Rosemarkie, Munlochy and return to Muir of Ord by 2.30pm, when the family fund day will start.

A raffle and an auction to raise funds will also be on on the day.
