A Conservative with strong Inverness connections is reportedly considering throwing his hat in the ring for the party's soon to be vacant Scottish leadership post.

Current Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross confirmed his intention to step down as the Scottish Conservatives' leader ahead of last week's General Election.

Mr Ross lost his bid to be re-elected as an MP last week, but he remains a list MSP for the Highlands and islands at Holyrood, and will continue in that role after stepping down as party leader.

Now, the campaign has begun to find a replacement, with several faces reported to be sizing up a leadership bid.

And, as reported in the The Times, one well-known Scottish Conservative now thought to be considering a move to run for leader is that of Murdo Fraser - who has strong links to Inverness.

Mr Fraser, who was deputy leader of the party from 2005 and 2011, is a list MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife.

But he originally hails from Inverness and attended the city's Inverness Royal Academy as a youngster. He also still has family in the area.

If he does run for leader it won't be his first attempt to secure the party's top post at Holyrood - he stood unsuccessfully back in 2011, when he was defeated by Ruth Davidson.
