Motorists urged to only travel on A9 between Carrbridge and Moy if journey is essential

Motorists are being urged to travel on the A9 between Carrbridge and Inverness only if their journey is absolutely necessary.

Traffic Scotland has said in their latest update posted at 11.20am there are currently very difficult driving conditions in the area especially between Carrbridge and Moy.

There have also been reports on social media of treacherous conditions with traffic coming to a standstill by the Blackmount junction of the A9 by Carrbridge.

Sarah MacDonald posted: "It is horrid out there. I was at a standstill. There are stuck cars and lorries, then I got stuck turning back at the Slochd. No-one should travel on the A9 at the moment as it is so dangerous."

There are other reports of traffic stuck at Tomatin.

Gritters have been treating the A9 in both directions.

The Lynwilg area just north of Aviemore at the A95 and A9 junction is also described as hazardous.

The snow gates are closed on the A939 Cock Bridge road at both ends.
