Police Scotland officers in the Highlands reported two men for dangerous driving after unconnected speeding offences on the A9

MOTORISTS caught speeding at more than 120mph were snared by police on the Black Isle and Easter Ross during an ongoing clampdown.

Officers across the Highlands have been carrying out patrols as part of the force's annual winter safety campaign, which began on Saturday.

Drug driving, careless driving and motorists without insurance were among the offences detected over the opening weekend.

And two men have been reported for separate, unconnected speeding offences on the A9.

A 22-year-old man was spotted doing 128mph at Pitmaduthy in Easter Ross, and a 32-year-old man was reported for driving at 122mph at Arpafeelie on the Black Isle. Both have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for dangerous driving offences.

Road Policing Inspector Donnie Mackinnon said: "These high visibility patrols are carried out with a view to increasing the safety of all road users.

It is extremely disappointing that there is a minority who continue to put themselves and others at risk and clearly do not consider the potential consequences of their actions. We will continue to robustly deal with these offenders.

"I would like to encourage drivers to check that their vehicle lights are working, there is sufficient tread on tyres and windscreen fluid reservoirs are kept full.

"Vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists should be wear appropriate reflective clothing and ensure that front and rear lights are fully functioning."
