A DRIVER was caught speeding at 115mph on a stretch of dual carriageway on the A9 at Arpafeelie on the Black Isle.

Sean Macpherson (22) appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court last week where he admitted driving dangerously and at excessive speed on part of the trunk road, which had a 70mph limit, on September 27 last year.

Sheriff Robert Macdonald heard that the apprentice electrician, of Glenburn Drive, Inverness, had a similar previous conviction.

Defence solicitor Clare Russell told the court his driving licence was essential to him because his employment took him all over the Highlands and islands.

She claimed that he was now making efforts to find alternative employment as he recognised he would lose his current employment as a result of his offending.

Sheriff Macdonald said he was sure that Macpherson was fully aware of how dangerous it was to drive at such an excessive speed on that particular stretch of road and fined him £400.

Macpherson was also disqualified from driving for a year.

He was further told that, after this period of disqualification had expired, he would have to resit his driving test if he wanted to get back behind the wheel.
